Scotland's Buses in the 1960s does just what the title says, capturing the spirit of the decade in 250 evocative high-quality colour photographs - most of them previously unpublished - backed up by text which tells the story of a decade of remarkable change. Glasgow-born author Stewart J Brown describes the Scottish bus industry as it was half a century ago, mainly using photographs taken by fellow transport enthusiast Harry Hay, with whom he travelled the country. The pictures cover Scotland from John o'Groats in the north to Dumfries in the south, and illustrate the vehicles of over 50 different operators, most of who have long since disappeared. Key sections of the book focus on the country's four biggest cities and on other areas which attracted enthusiasts including the Clyde Coast and Paisley, both served by colourful independents, and Inverness where Highland Omnibuses ran the most varied fleet of any state-owned bus company in Britain.
